บทคัดย่อ:

‘Nam Dok Mai’mango is one of the important fruits exported from Thailand. However, this fruit exhibits a short shelf life because of its high respiration rate and ethylene production. Therefore, postharvest fruit quality deterioration is the major problem. The combination of chitosan and spermidine was applied to harvested ‘Nam Dok Mai’ mango as a surface coating to prolong their shelf life. Coating with 1% chitosan alone or in combination with 0.1 ppm spermidine obstructed the gas exchange in the mango peel. An addition of 0.1 ppm spermidine to 1% chitosan coating showed significant induction of endogenous polyamine sincluding free putresine spermidine and spermine as well as bound spermidine in the fruit peel during storage at ambient temperature (25 ± 2˚C). Moreover, coating with 1% chitosan in combination with 0.1 ppm spermidine retained fresh weight and delayed peel color changes during storage more effectively when compared with coating with 1% chitosan alone or in combination with 1 or 10 ppm spermidine. Therefore, the 1% chitosan plus 0.1 ppm spermidine treatment can serve as a surface coating for ‘Nam Dok Mai’ mango to reduce the postharvest quality loss in mango.
