Abstract:         Salt stress is one of the major abiotic stresses affecting plant growth and productivity in Thailand, especially in the northeastern area. We previously found that two local mulberry cultivars; Som and Plong, were to lerant to salt while BR51 (Burirum 51, hybrid variety) and S61 (exotic variety) were sensitive. The objective of this study was to compare protein expression in salt tolerant and salt sensitive mulberry cultivars after treated with 200 mM NaCl for 7 days. Total proteins of the leaves were extracted and separated by two- imensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and then analyzed with an ImageMaster 2D Elite 5.0. Approximately 100 protein spots were reproducibly detected on each gel. Of these, 13 were differentially expressed in leaves of salt tolerant and sa lt sensitive mulberry varieties under sodium chlorid e treatment. These pro tein spots will consequently be excised, s ubjected to in-gel digestion and the tryptic peptides will be further analyzed b y LC-MS/MS.
